First off—congratulations. You’re engaged! Take a second. Soak it in. Snap a photo of the ring. And when you’re ready to do more than scroll, here’s what we recommend as your first 10 steps to kick off your wedding planning process intelligently (not frantically).
At Well-Dressed Events, this is the strategy we walk all our full-service couples through—so consider it your unofficial onboarding.
1. Celebrate First (Seriously)
Yes, this is a planning post, but celebrating comes first. Take time to enjoy being engaged before the spreadsheets start.
2. Have the Budget Talk
It’s not sexy, but it’s essential. Talk with anyone contributing financially. Get clarity on who’s paying for what and set a realistic top-line number.
3. Draft a Guest Count Range
Guest count = budget driver. You don’t need the full list yet, but knowing if you’re inviting 80 or 180 helps with venue and vendor decisions. Make an A-list (must-be-there) and B-list (okay if they aren’t there).
4. Talk Vision & Vibe
Modern? Formal? Whimsical? Backyard but elevated? Jot down some words or create a shared Pinterest board. We help couples refine this into a clear visual direction.
5. Hire a Full-Service Planner (Now!)
Before you book a venue, hire your planner. Seriously. We’ll help you:
- Set priorities
- Avoid mistakes
- Find the right venue (that fits your style AND your budget)
6. Start a Planning Email
Create a dedicated email account or folder to keep all your wedding communications in one place.
7. Pick Your Top 3 Priorities
What matters most to you? Food, music, flowers, design, photos? Pick your top 3 so we can help you budget around them.
8. Research Potential Dates & Seasons
Don’t lock into a date just yet—but get a sense of what time of year you want to get married. Some venues and vendors book 12–18 months out.
9. Start Dreaming of Venues
Just browsing? Great. Make a short list of venues that match your vibe and guest count. Once your planner is on board, we’ll help narrow the list.
10. Book a Consultation With Your Planner
We’ll walk you through what comes next, how our packages work, and how to build a timeline that actually fits your life.
