Why You Still Need a Wedding Planner Even If Your Venue Provides an Event Manager

Jan 30, 2023

“I don’t need a planner because my venue has an event manager.” As NJ Wedding Planners, this is something we hear all the time from engaged couples. If you’re new around here, we’re Well-Dressed Events, New Jersey’s premier stylecentric wedding, party and event planning company. We specialize in high-end, unique events for modern, bold, standout clients and we pride ourselves on cutting-edge, creative design, styling and event management.

If you’re not sure if you still need a wedding planner in addition to the venue-provided event manager, here are 3 reasons why you might want to consider hiring a wedding planner for your New Jersey wedding.

Your ceremony is taking place at a different location.

If you are having everything on site at the venue including getting ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, then you probably don’t need a wedding planner. Venue event managers will be able to coordinate your ceremony for you. However, if you are getting married off site at a church, temple, park or any other scenic location, it is 100% a good idea to hire a wedding planner.

Any time you factor in moving large groups of people from one place to another within a strict timeframe, it’s important to have a champion (read: wedding planner!) to facilitate all of this. Plus, if you’re not getting married in a place of worship, it’s super helpful to have a planner on your side to help you with the flow of the ceremony (like who walks when, etc). Wedding planners will also provide ceremony script examples including officiant welcome, readings, vows and more.

You are really busy with work (or life).

This is a big one. If you have a demanding job, a family or anything else that you must prioritize over wedding planning, having a planner is crucial. When you work with Well-Dressed Events for full-service planning and coordination, you get a personalized monthly checklist, monthly calls to discuss planning and logistics as well as expert advice on everything from vendor recommendations to help managing tricky scenarios.

A venue event manager will keep you on track with all things related to the venue. Think menu selections, guest count deadlines, ceremony basics and reception flow. They will also be able to provide vendor recommendations, but will not be as available to you throughout the planning process as your wedding planner is.

You tend to get stressed easily.

If you find that you’re often stressed out by big projects, then you need a wedding planner for the same reasons we listed above and more. When it comes to personalized planning checklists, if you work with Well-Dressed Events, you even get access to a planning portal where were release certain tasks to you throughout the process, so you can tackle planning in small, guided, bite sized pieces!

If people tend to stress you out or if you have a very opinionated family, a wedding planner is an amazing buffer to put some space between you and them. We help you to navigate some of the tricky etiquette situations you’ll find yourself in, but also will just tell you to just use us as an excuse! “My wedding planner told me I can’t.” Best excuse ever. You’re welcome.

Our day of timelines help put our couples at ease knowing early on that all of the moments they want to fit into their day are accounted for. It’s also really nice to see on paper that every vendor’s arrival and departure time are noted to remind you that we’re on top of it!

To put a bow on it…

Hiring a wedding planner guarantees that you have personalized service throughout the planning process. We will work with your amazing venue event manager to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Your venue event manager will thank you for hiring the right planner, because it makes their job so much easier, and they know you are happy, sane and taken care of!
